Got Questions ?

We've Got Answers.

Thumb spica splint immobilizes the thumb and often the wrist, allowing other fingers to move. Used for thumb/wrist sprains, fractures (scaphoid, lunate, first metacarpal), thumb arthritis, and post-surgery support, to stabilize and promote healing.

The duration varies by condition severity. For example, some conditions might require you to wear it for up to 4 to 6 weeks . Whereas, conditions like fractures/ligament injuries can take several weeks (6 to 12 possible). Crucially, follow your doctor's specific instructions.

Keep it dry (cover for showers), clean (wipe plastic, hand-wash liners/straps), avoid extreme heat, check skin regularly, don't insert objects, and don't alter it. Contact your provider for fit or damage issues.

Avoid forceful gripping, pinching, twisting, repetitive thumb/wrist movements, heavy lifting, contact sports, and potentially driving initially. Follow specific activity modifications advised by your doctor/therapist.

Increased pain, numbness/tingling, finger swelling/coldness/color change, splint too tight/loose, skin irritation/sores, drainage/odor, inability to move fingers (if initially mobile), or fever require immediate medical attention.
